Internationally Renowned Thai Cuisine
The delicious Thai food is definitely one of the reasons why so many visitors come to Thailand every year. Restaurants in Phuket are certainly showcases of the country's wonderful food. Every Thai is a gourmet in their heart and eating is a big part of Thai social life, bringing family and friends together.

Thai food is internationally famous. In addition to regional food from the South of Thailand, including plenty of seafood, thick spicy curries with a Malay influence, the restaurants in Phuket offer a wide range of international food, with plenty of Italian, French, American, German, Chinese, Japanese and other menus from around the world. Whether chilli-hot or comparatively bland, harmony is the guiding principle behind each dish.

Fusion of Inspiration and Ingredients
Thai cuisine is essentially a fusion of centuries-old Eastern and Western influences harmoniously combined into something uniquely Thai. The characteristics of Thai food depend on who cooks it, for whom it is cooked, for what occasion, and where it is cooked.

Originally, Thai cooking reflected the characteristics of a waterborne lifestyle. Marine animals, plants and herbs were major ingredients. Large chunks of meat were eschewed. With their Buddhist background, Thais shunned the use of large animals in big chunks. Big cuts of meat were shredded and laced with herbs and spices. Traditional Thai cooking methods were stewing and baking, or grilling. Chinese influences saw the introduction of frying, stir frying and deep-frying.

Something for Every Taste
Phuket restaurants offers a wide variety of tastes and budgets, from simple street side noodle carts and grill stalls to five star restaurants with spectacular ocean views.

Visitors wishing to experience the Thai lifestyle should definitely try some of the street noodle carts on offer. Phuket seafood is among the best in the world and many favourite dishes include shrimp, crab or fresh fish.

Other popular Thai dishes are Tom Yum Goong, a spicy and sour shrimp soup, Gaeng Kiew Wan, sweet and spicy green curry, Goong Tord Gratiem Prik Thai, deep fried tiger prawns with garlic and pepper and Goong Makham, fried prawns with Tamarind sauce.

Being a island for tourists, Phuket has no shortage of fine dining options concentrated near the beaches, especially Patong. Award-winning Thai and international chefs offer traditional and fusion dishes in tastefully decorated environments. Keep in mind that international restaurants are generally more expensive than Thai restaurants.
